Some of the Most Mysterious Crimes that Remain Unsolved

There are a lot of unsolved crimes, including the ones charged with theft in San Marcos.  Some are more creepy, unsettling, and disturbing than others. Check out some of these real cases that just might keep you up at night.

The East Area Rapist

The East Area Rapist crimes spanned from 1976 to 1986. The unknown criminal murdered over 10 people and raped more than 50 women. His territory appeared to be Northern and Southern California, depending on the year.  To add further fuel to the terror experienced by his victims, the man would call some of them, saying something like “Hello, it’s me again!” before hanging up.  The scariest call may just be the short voicemail he left for one of his victims, where he whispered, “I’m going to kill you” while breathing heavily and playing creepy music in the background.  The EAR was never caught, and if alive, may still be on the loose. This highlights the importance of hiring a lawyer even when pleading guilty, which can reduce the charges from the court.

The Chicago Tylenol Murders

Tylenol

It happened near Chicago, Illinois in September 1982. Twelve-year-old Mary Kellerman came down with a cold and took Tylenol to alleviate her symptoms.  Unknowingly to her and her family, the extra-strength Tylenol she consumed had been laced with cyanide and the young girl died shortly afterward.  In just a few days, the death toll grew, sometimes deaths occurring in the same family. White Sands were hands on in their quest to finding out the source of the tylonol. The only tie all the victims was their consumption of Tylenol prior to their death.  The company that manufactured the drug launched a nationwide recall and what had been found is that all of the contaminated bottles came from various production plants, so it was presumed that someone was buying the bottles and returning them poisoned, or altering them in-store.  A suspect had been apprehended, but later released as a result of lack of evidence.  The police still have some of the contaminated pills and are hoping with advancements in forensics, they could still catch the perpetrator.

The Girl Scout Murders

Girl scout murders

About two months before the incident, someone broke into a counselor tent at Locust Grove in Oklahoma, and left a note expressing that three campers would be murdered, but it was thought to be a hoax and the note was discarded.  Then on the evening of June 13 1977, three young girls Lorie Farmer, Doris Milner, and Michelle Guse staying in tent#8, nearly 80 yards away from the camp counselor, were raped and then murdered without anyone hearing a sound.  A suspect was caught but later acquitted, so this crime is still unsolved to this day.

The Mysterious Death of Elisa Lam

Elisa Lam

Elisa Lam had been reported missing at the end of January and was found dead two weeks later in her hotel’s water tank. The Los Angeles Police Department released video of the last time she was known to have been seen by elevator security footage. In the video, Lam was behaving erratically. She is seen exiting and re-entering the elevator, talking and gesturing in the hallway, and sometimes appearing to hide with the elevator. Others claim that paranormal activity was involved in the case.
